Oh, my - lookie what I found in the barn this morning!

Well, I got kind of a late start this morning - I was supposed to run a fan motor into town "early" but, you know, it IS my vacation this week -

But I did agree to go out and check on Wendy a couple of times - when I got out there at about 10:30 - look what I found!

Wendy had her babies.  All by herself, thank god.

I did get them settled in a jug (small pen for mom & lambs for my non sheepy friends)  -

There are two little ewes, both around 3 3/4 pounds (The Shepherd weighed them when he stopped in after lunch to "check on them"

They are both "moorit" or brown, and by looking at the amount of white on their heads and tails, they will probably turn and be fawn colored.

Like I said, Wendy was a very good mom and had them all cleaned off in no time.

Here is Donna & Django - it is amazing what a difference even 24 hours makes as far as the little ones getting around -

He seems like he is pretty mellow and laid back - that is a good thing for a ram.

Here is Vikki & Wether #2 - they are hopping around and head butting each other already!

Here is also a little video so you can hear the mamma talk to the babies.  (and them talk back)

Four down, one to go - the lamb count is 7 - 4 ewes, 1 ram and two wethers.  (or at least they will be as soon as they are big enough!)

Out into the big wide world

HI! My name is Eva!

I am The Shepherd's favorite. I know this because he whispered it in my ear this afternoon.

He says I'm going to have pretty wool - what ever that is...

This is not a very lady like pose you guys...

HI! My name is Blanco - I'm hard to get a picture of - the lady says I'm something called a "whirling dervish", what ever that is....

HI! My name is Rita, put me down NOW!

Eva & Blanco here - we heard the lady say that our mom was being kind of a b**ch because she won't let that other sheep family into the little barn with us. We hope she chills out, because it is going to be kind of rainy and windy tomorrow, and we wouldn't like our new friends to get wet and cold.

HI, My name is Wendy.

The Shepherd man says I'm going to turn grey because I have white around my mouth and little white hairs on my butt. I'm going to have a pretty coat though.

Come back and see us soon - all the neighbors have been stopping by. They keep asking where somebody named Wicket is...

Pretty in Pink

The Star Magnolias are in full bloom right now -

It was a smart person who decided to make a pink one - they are so pretty.

Speaking of pretty - Here is the newest addition to the farm - Marietta's Krissie - She was born yesterday afternoon to Jewell - Unfortunately her sister didn't make it. The only thing we can figure out is that the (first timer) mom was too long in labor. The Shepherd thinks we're going to have all black & white lambs this year - so far we're batting 1000...

And speaking of black & white - here is "not so little any more" Wicket - Growing like a weed - he has more than tripled his weight since birth (about 2 & 1/2 weeks ago)

"Mommy, wow, I'm a big boy now! " Doesn't he look like he's wearing a jacket? I haven't been able to figure out if that black spot on his butt is heart shaped -

He never stands still long enough to figure it out.

They are out in the front pasture now. Sure to be stopping traffic on the corner.

"Race ya to the barn, Bode........"

Zoom, zoom, zoom..........

Lamb (and mama) update

He had the vet come out this afternoon - Moni is still retaining the placenta - ugh - so she got shots of banamine, (she was really grinding her teeth) an antibiotic and a hormone to help with the placenta thing. But she's being a more attentive mom. The lambs seem to be going strong - The Shepherd has been feeding them a little, but when we went out tonight to give Moni one of her shots the little black one (Bode) was enthusiastically having a little dinner. The little white one, who is now called Wicket was slumbering in the corner and was not really interested in any milk from a bottle, but his tummy seemed full and he seemed happy. Good sign.
