Happy 4th of July!

Hooray for the red, white & blue.

We had our own "fireworks" here all day, as he weaned Robin & Ruby this a.m. (ie - he removed them from their mothers - causing great havoc ALL day long)

I miss our Japanese iris. The Shepherd had over 20 varieties - they bloomed during the last two weeks of June. (Generally while we were gone for Black Sheep!)

A year ago last winter, we had several HARD freezes - plants that had grown for years in the county died - including ALL of his Japanese iris (what didn't die got munched by the rascally rabbits who moved in this spring)

There is no plant more amazing to me than the hydrangea - give it one mineral, it turns blue, give it another it turns pink - magic!

Well, the 4th of July is here - we had hoped our noisy neighbor was gone for the weekend, but, nope, he is back - already setting off fireworks. The only consolation I have is that the little girls will probably start in crying at about 5:00 in the morning - and hope it wakes him up out of his stupor... (Ok, I know that's probably going to give me bad Karma but I just can't help myself)

Hope you and your family have a GREAT 4th of July!

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day is not really one of my favorite "holidays" - it reminds me of what I don't have.

This picture of my mom was taken when she was in her early 40's - a small piece cropped out of a family picture. (I have lots of others, but none digitalized - maybe someday I'll buy one of those transfer machines - not tops on my list of things to spend money on at this point though.)

She died February 10, 1978 when she was 58 from cancer. My dad died three months later in May 1978 from cancer.

I see how conflicted my friends are about their aging & dying parents and I think - "Hmm - Been there, done that, got the T-shirt."

We had some wonderful Mom Stories at church today - Some funny, some poignant. But, talk is cheap = If you haven't called your Mom today to tell her "Happy Mother's Day" - get on the stick - do it - someday you'll be glad you did.

Wishing for Peace for the New Year -

These charming little white pigeons live on the other side of the barn with the aforementioned CVM's - the previous owner had a business where she rented them to release at weddings, events, etc. - about two dozen of them didn't want to or weren't able to relocate to her new home, so Yvonne and her hubby have a flock of white pigeons - they were very carfree looking flying about.

Tomorrow The Shepherd and I'll spend the day with two of my sisters and a Bro-in-law - Snoqualamie Pass is expecting 1-2 feet of snow and the roads will be too bad for the other sister to make it - I wish this holiday fell in July - it would make planning around the weather much easier.

New Year's Day will bring brunch at our friend Nancy's farm. Good food and good music - I think I'll remember to take my camera and tell you all about it.

Did you notice the new picture on my profile? I also have a link to my email address there if you are interested. My next project is to add links to some more of my favorite places to share them with you all!

I hope you (and yours - whatever or whomever that is) have Happy New Year!
